From what I understand, D.C. is not a place to stage a personal gun show. The District recently attempted to make the possession of firearms illegal from federal buildings to personal residences and everywhere in between. While the law didn't stand the Constitutional scrutiny of the Supreme Court (not to mention NRA gun-toters) it demonstrates the lengths to which the District authorities would go to curb amateur marksmen from roaming the streets. The revised gun law now permits a citizen to own a registered gun so long as it is left at home.
ESPN's Marc Stein reported that Arenas and Javaris Crittenton had gotten into a dispute surrounding a card game they engaged in during the Dec. 20th flight back from Phoenix. During the argument, they mentioned shooting each other with guns (admit it, this happens in your office all the time). Gil then placed three of his guns on a chair near Javaris and asked him to pick one as if he were choosing a lance before engaging in a joust. Gil has since been suspended by the NBA, effectively ruining gun-related locker room jokes for the foreseeable future.
The local D.C. police force will be working with the federal district attorney in deciding what if any crime Arenas is guilty of. The Wizards should be pulling for a conviction or plea to a federal charge in order to allow the Wiz to void the massive contract with Arenas.
David Aldredge of NBA.com reported, "If Washington were to void Arenas's deal, it would suddenly become a player in the celebrated free agent class of 2010. Without Arenas's $17.7 million on the books next season, the Wizards would only have a little less than $38 million committed for the 2010-11 season, including a $2.27 million option Washington holds on the final year of Crittenton's contract."
So, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, the light seems to eminate from July. Even Blatch, who has untapped potential, has been yapping about touches inside, landing him a spot on the end of the bench where he can give airtime to one of his tailored suits.
What should the Wiz do? Deal Jamison, whose game I really like, and stop playing veterans (Boykins!) ahead of young players. It's time for McGee, Foye, and Young to get some playing time. With some luck they may win the Wall lottery.

Arenas might be the most thuggish 'Gilbert' of all time.
It was obviously ironic that the Wizards were formerly the Bullets when this story broke. I would have loved it if Arenas had put three magic wands on the table and asked Crittenton which spell he wanted cast on him.
How 'bout stop recruiting from the hood? All the NBA is a bunch of thugs with money.
I think they just need to move the franchise to Seattle and have all the players live in Canada.
